Reflective Journal #5: Speaking to Persuade.

As we have now passed the middle of the term, we have gained some experience with speaking to audiences in different formats, learning how to personalize, gain credibility, and integrate research in the process. Now, we are moving forward into a new challenge: to persuade an audience. This means addressing a strongly held opinion, or bias, or perspective of the world...  and destabilizing it, maybe even changing it.

For this week, I want us to review two models. One is by Mechai Veravaidya, a world leader in the area of family planning. You will see he has a very distinct style, sense of humour, and finds a way to talk about sensitive topics in an entertaining way.

Another example is by Greta Thunberg. Here is an example of a very young and fearless young person who has tremendous power in spite of her age, and largely due to her extraordinary ability to speak with honesty, clarity, and conviction.

Both of these speeches are posted in the Google Classroom in the Week 9-12 folder. Please view them, and make observations.

Particularly, I want you to decide if you are persuaded by them. If the answer is yes, why and how are you persuaded by them? Is it their delivery? Is it their research? Is it their experience and credibility? These are all possible ideas for discussion.

Please make your first post by Sunday night (the 28th), and then respond to the comments of 2 classmates by class time on April 1. I look forward to reading your thoughts.

Yes, the family planning program is really important after I watched the video. At first, he starts the video by telling the true story and the way that we must do to solve this problem. Moreover, there are many examples of him going into the real place, so this will make this speech more reliable. For example, when he went to provide the lesson for the villagers in each area, this will even make his speech more trustable. This work's experience will give credibility. Then, the most important point is the graph result from the year 1974 and 2000 because it significantly shows that this program is really working. The number of children greatly reduce. As a result, I think that this program is trustable, so I am persuaded by them.

    Greta Thunberg
Yes, I agree that global warming is one of the world problems that have to be fixed. She tells a story that cannot be denied. There is no one doing anything to help to solve the problem. Moreover, there are some statistics to enhance the credibility of the speech. For example, the usage of the barrel, and the number of species that go extinct can be the evidence for the speech. She also says about the bad true fact that will occur if we do not do anything. In addition, when she thinks about her personal experience in the past and the future, she always says something to let the audience think along with her speech. It is a really good technique because the audience will give the opinion in the mind automatically. As a result, I think global warming is a crucial problem that has to be fixed. I am persuaded by her.

I completely agree with you and also was persuaded by Greta Thunberg. She makes me realized that if we do not do anything about this crisis, eventually the world temperature is going to keep rising and there will be no world. The following generations such as our children and grandchildren will live in pain, sorrow, and difficult times.

Surely, Mr.Mechai's speech provides the audience with experiences and situations in the past which makes us believe him from his credibility in this field. Also, Greta really speaks about the sad truth about our world. She connects to the audience with her personal experiences and make them think along with her throughout the end of the speech.

I agree that Mr. Mechai going to different rural places to promote the use of condoms to prevent unplanned pregnancy and the spread of STDs helped make him gain credibility in this speech. It looks like he devoted his life for the cause.

I agree with you that the speech of Mechai Veravaidya is very persuasive. He showed the graph results that supported his claims, and it greatly enhanced his credibility. For Greta Thunberg, I also believe that she told the fact that was hard to deny. Her speech was powerful that could persuade people. Also, the way she mentioned her experience significantly captured the attention of the audience.

In my opinion, this lessons should be provide at school to help teenagers understand more about their future and aware how important it is.

Yes, his speech was persuasive. Family planning is very important topic for the modern societies. If we dont take care of it, it will create a big problem. I personally sees the outcome of no family planning in the society I live, because my people do not care about it and they just keep having kids.
I think, his experience in the filed of family planning helped him to explain the topic very well and made me persuaded. Moreover, he was confidence enough to speak about sensitive topics and keep the audience comfortable while listening to him.

    Greta Thunberg
The climate change is one of the most global pressing problems right now. and she was right when she said that there is no enough media coverage about it. in my opinion, her style of delivery and her clear and strong voice tune helped her to make her speech more persuasive. for me, her way of speakig with very clear voice made me feels that these information are fact and I should care more about global warming. In addition, she did a good research to collect all of these information, which also made the speech more persuasive.

  3. Mananchaya Punsiri 6329021 (Section 2)

The first video from Mechai Veravaidya is very persuasive. I was persuaded by his speech because I strongly believe that we do need more family planning in order to help improve women's lives and to decrease adolescent pregnancy issues in Thailand as well as unwanted pregnancies. He persuades me by way of his delivery and experiences. His speech is funny and entertaining, which makes it effective when talking about sensitive topics such as condoms and sex. Additionally, his experiences with being an activist in AIDS prevention, having a business enterprise to end poverty, and building schools in Thailand truly increase his credibility. Therefore, this makes me believe that we do need a family planning service in order for the Millennium Development Goals to work.

Secondly, I absolutely was persuaded by the talk from Greta Thunberg because climate change is real, it is happening right now, and it affects everyone including my life. She persuades me by her research, delivery, and personal connection. She gives various research information to support her talk and make us see the big picture of what is currently happening right now in the world. Furthermore, she delivers her speech with a serious tone as well as repetitive phrases such as “we need to change.” or “no one talks about it”. This effectively makes her speech more convincing and calls for the attention of this global warming crisis. Her personal connection with the climate change issues makes me realize that we need to take action now in order for the next generations to live and to save our planet from extinction.

As for Greta's speech, I also think that she does very well in researching to help us seeing how bad the situation is right now as well.

I also agree about Greta's speech. Greta's speech was full of interesting facts that we all knew but what is more doubtful is although we knew all the impacts that our daily lives can cause but we still keep doing what we should NOT do. I agree that Greta's tone of voice and repetitive uses of phrases increase her credibility and convincing

Mr.Mechai’s speech sounds persuasive for me. According to the fact that he talks about a family planning which is pretty crucial for most people, I believe that the credibility of his reputation in this field and his expert experiences made the speech becomes more credible. He provides the audience about the real situations which happen in Thailand many years ago, talking about his campaign that could help solving those problems and also adding many visual aids to help the audience to follow up, to see a clear picture of what he is talking about at the time. Importantly, he’s not afraid of talking about this sensitive topic because he is an expert in this field, he is very enthusiast and confident about the knowledge he wants to share, it even make his speech much more interesting to keep listen.

Same goes for Greta Thunberg, her speech is a persuasive one as well. I have heard about her reputation as an environmental activist for a while ago. And I strongly believe that she knows the problem she talks about in details, you could totally see them in her presentation. Greta has a strong and clear voice, it supports her speech very well. She has an ability of a good public speaking as she has her own speaking style, to speak with her pure emotion along with strong word choices she choose to use, the audience would feel that this climate problem she talks about is really serious and needed to be fix right away. I found that it is a very unique and powerful way to inform, and at the same time, persuade the audience to help solving the global warming issue in our world.

I also think that Greta seem to be well aware about what she is speaking. She even mention how the developed country should be the one who take action first. I think it is because she viewed it as a more realistic approach to go through this environmental crisis since the developing country don't even have the facilities to serve their citizens. This also how I got persuaded as well.

By listening to a speech made by Mechai Veravaidya on family planning, I was quite persuaded that saving lives and improving the quality of life are not duties that belong to only the government. Every sector of the community, even an individual, should take part in it. I think the main reason why he was able to persuade people is his credibility. To be more precise, he told and described stories of his own personal experiences, trying to change Thailand community to be a better place. For example, he described, using concrete words, the moment when he was holding a bowl of holy water and asking the monk to sprinkle onto pills and condoms. Other than that, it is because of the design and the organization of his delivery which oriented the audience well, presenting how severe the issue is, the solutions, and the results.

I think GretaThunberg had made a very powerful speech, and yes I was persuaded by it. First, I think she has designed her speech well as well as selected and made accurate uses of words, phrases and sentences, so they appeal to the audience’s emotion. For instance, she said, “Instead of looking for hope, look for action. Then, and only then, hope will come”, repeating a few words for several times – “hope” and “action”. Secondly, they are her sincerity and confidence that increase her credibility in making this speech. Right at the beginning, she was able to clearly express her thoughts, such as by using the phrase “black and white” to emphasize that for her the emission needs to be completely stopped –not just reduced. Lastly, she also mentioned many examples that we all experience and can connect to, such as that no one talked about climate change and this topic was not even in the news. When we are directly involved in the topic, we are more likely to concentrate, and then to be persuaded.

And educational, in addition to his having reliable information that made him enjoy the public's respect and love to listen to him.

about Greta blog and her speaking was very attractive to me in the beginning her stand, tone, confidence and facial expression was rare, she was speaking boldly and had supportive information that made her speech very convincing and an act that should be said to everyone, heard and applied as well . because she bored from talking about climate change crisis without any actual action to solve it from high authorities or people themselves, she preferred start with action directly to avoid repeat false and boring slogans .

Mechai’s speech is definitely persuasive. He could make me understand and believe that family planning is crucial. In my opinion, his credibility makes his speech extremely powerful. It is clear that he has a lot of experience on this particular topic. Together with the statistic and percentage he provide, his data strongly supports his points. He also shows real pictures of the projects he was talking about which makes it easier to follow along. Moreover, he could talk about such sensitive topics like AIDS and condom in a casual and even entertaining ways. in addition, he did a great job on keeping audience attention by constantly add some jokes and show some memorable objects such as funny phrase on t-shirts.

Greta’s speech is also persuasive. She used some spoken references to make her data reliable. Her speech is very clear and calm. Despite the fact that she is a relatively young speaker, she successfully made her speech relate to those who are older. There was a part of her speech where I think she made a huge impact. It was when she mentioned about years that she would have ahead and the life of future generations. That really make me realize that instant action is needed. She also use quite a few repetitive phrases, for example “no emergency meetings, no headlines, no breaking news” and some rhetoric questions. Lastly, she ended with bold conclusion which make the speech even more persuasive.

The first speech on family planning delivered by Mechai Viravaidya was surprisingly persuasive. I was persuaded by the way he talked on the topic and his credibility, since he was a former thai politician and an activist. His supporting evidence was strong and easy to understand, and he showed real pictures of him and his campaign along the way. His humor also helped when he was talking about condoms and AIDS--talking on sensitive subjects in a casual manner. I really like his pace and jokes, and he reminds me of characters in sitcoms.

The speech by Greta was persuasive, concise, and she also used spoken reference to support her statement. As she has mentioned, she only speaks when its necessary, her speech was impactful even though it was about 9 to 10 minutes. She was continuously reflecting what our actions has caused to the earth to really put some sense in to us to make us want to act immediately. She presented the problem, cause, and solution in an orderly fashion and supplied that with facts and datas. She used her age as an example of what she could live to be if we were to act now. These things really effect the persuasiveness of the speech and makes us, the audience, want to take action.

Both speeches are persuasive. The speech made by Greta Thunberg started with general stories such as climate change due to humans’ actions to open up her story. After introducing her topic, she asked interesting questions that we all acknowledge but never ask them out. For instance, “if burning fossil fuels was so bad that it threatened our very existence, how could we just continue like before?” or “why were there no restrictions?” These questions grab audiences’ attention. Then she begins to talk about her personal story to relate audiences to her life experience and the topic that is talking about. Then she gave the statistics to improve credibility. She ends with a persuasive sentence such as “instead of looking for hope, look for action” in order to provoke and influence the audiences.

Mechai Veravaidya encourages people to use protection to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. He introduced his topic with a board topic by showing statistics and narrow down throughout his speech. He gradually told stories from the past up until the most recent story which makes the audience clearly seen the process. Moreover, in order to grab audiences’ attention, he added jokes and showed what the results are to provoke and convince audiences to his main idea.

For the first video I watched was Mechai Veravaidya’s speech. I believed that his speech was very persuasive and his speech helped us to see more clearly the importance of family planning. I would definitely say that I was persuaded. There were many things that made his persuasive speech powerful. The first factor was his story and he told the story so smoothly that it kept us interested throughout his speech. Then, he showed his credibility where he said that he went into the areas that are having problems making it clear to us that he understands the problems and why family planning is a good solution. His usage of data and statistics wasn’t too much for us and the data made it even more convicting since the data backing up the things he were claiming in his speech.

    Greta Thunberg

For this speech, I personally feel that it was very persuasive. She integrated her sources in her speech very smoothly and these credible sources help to back her points that she is trying to make. The usage of credible sources increases her credibility about the topic. She uses the tone to suit the seriousness of the global warming crisis making it convincing to listen to. At very near the end of her talk, she uses a call for action statement “ So instead of hope, look for action” which is a very moving statement ,and it makes some audiences feel there is a need for them to do something about the global warming problem.

Yes, I was persuaded by Mr. Mechai. His sense of humor kept the speech interesting for me. It made the speech more enjoyable and easier to get through the whole speech without missing any information. With his credibility and experiences in this field for the last 30-40 years help me believe what he is saying is the truth. Also, his research on the topic and citations on data and statistics made visualization about the topic he is saying easier to understand and persuade.

    Greta Thunburg

I am not quite persuaded by Greta. Her voice and tone are so indifferent that made the speech seem emotionless. I hope she could have more energy and different tones to make the speech more interesting. She also doesn’t have a presentation slide, which is a bold move as she wants the audience to focus only on herself, as a young child fighting for her future. I like the part where she appealed to the emotions of the audience about how her children and grandchildren looked back why people in 2018 didn’t do anything to try to stop climate change. The audience will start to think about their own children and grandchildren too. However, it seems that she is very well prepared and her research is very well done which shows her credibility as a speaker.

I agree that Greta's speech is well prepared. She stated that if right now we did not do anything and make the future that can not be undone. Her grandchildren might ask why people in 2018 didn’t do anything to try to stop climate change. I agree that this point will impact the audience. Her research is reliable and as she delivered the speech without slide make the audience only focus on her.

For Mechai Veravaidya's speech, he talked about "how to end poverty in Thailand" by fixing the root cause of it which was family planning, and yes I got persuaded by him. The way he organized his speech was very effective. He started with the problems followed by the reasons, approach, and ended up with the outcomes. By this, it gave a clear picture and resulted in better understanding. During his speech, he also gave lots of examples which were his personal experiences. For instance, he set up the activities to educate a group of teachers about condoms. Moreover, there was statistical data provided. After he talked about population growth reduction strategies, he showed the data that supported his claims, so it could raise his credibility.

Greta Thunberg's speech on climate change is very persuasive. She spoke of the fact that it is often said that climate change is a thread, but we ignore it. She also provided the data such as the rate of extinction, which made her speech more reliable. Furthermore, she clearly explained the impact of climate change and the importance of this issue. For instance, she said what we did or did not do now would affect people in the next generation leading to the conclusion that we should take some action right now.

He is also an exceptional persuader, he provided a clear picture that culminated in a proper picture by stating the issues, followed by the causes, solution, and finally the results that audience can be easily followed.

After I have watched Mechai Veravaidya speech, I would say that he knows what he is speaking about. He provided me with loads of pictures and stories along the speech. The anecdote really makes the audiences, like myself, feel engaged and Mechai’s credibility within this topic of family planning. For instance, he shows us the picture of himself with the monk’s giving sacred water to condoms or other kinds of contraceptives. It is a new and innovative way to deliver and explain the situation that Mechai tried to depict. I think this is why he is able to persuade and convince people.
Next is Greta Thunberg speech, I think she is an amazing speaker and thinker. The way she shows us how she views the world with her speech is well designed. I have heard about her name before but never really listened to her speech before, and now it gave me goosebump. Her personal story truly connects us with the environmental and its action alertness. She connected the simple dots and pointed out the normal feeling of people who are ignorant in the right moment. For example, the question she asked everyone about how she will tell her grandchildren about all this mess and how it matters because even a child who skipped school, in this case it is Greta, can be the headline news. The last part when she stays true and realistic by saying the ordinary truth of our saying and action is just mesmerizing.

I think that Mechai Veravaidya’s speech is very persuasive. In this speech, he has a really good sense of humor that makes his speech easy to follow. Moreover, he told the audience about the importance of family planning. His credibility increased when he told us that he went into the areas that are having problems because of that he can give us so many examples and we also know that it is based on his experience and it is the truth. He also provides the statistical data but it is not too much.

I think that The Greta Thunberg speech is very persuasive. In this speech she asked many questions that she stated for example, how could we just continue like before? Why were there no restrictions? This makes the audience try to find the question themselves. She points out that no one talks about climate change right now but if we let it be the impact might be larger than the world war. She states about the impact of climate change which can make her speech more related to the audience and show some of statistical data such as extinction rate or emission rate make her speech more reliable. In the ending of speech, she made an impact by showing us that what we do or not do right now will affect her entire life in the future.

The first video is by Mechai Veravaidya. His speech encouraged me because I am a strong believer in the importance of family planning in improving women's lives and reducing teenage pregnancy problems in Thailand, as well as unwanted pregnancies. He persuades me with his delivery and his perspectives. His voice is humorous and engaging, which makes it efficient when addressing important subjects like condoms and sex. Furthermore, his experiences as an AIDS prevention activist, having a corporate company to end hunger and establishing schools in Thailand all contribute to his reputation. Therefore, his speech made me think that we do need a family planning service in order for the Millennium Development Goals to be effective.

Greta Thunberg's climate change speech is rather convincing. She mentioned how it is often said that climate change is a thread, but we disregard it. She also presented statistics, such as the rate of extinction, which increased the credibility of her speech. She also includes the impactful punchline to capture the audiences, such as ” To stop the emissions, to me is a black or white. There are no grey areas when it comes to survival ”, meaning that the action must be taken seriously.

To begin, I was definitely persuaded by Mechai Veravaidya’s speech due to many different reasons. One of the huge contributor is definitely Mechai’s credibility in regards to the topic he is talking about. As a founder of the Mechai Viravaida foundation, he is directly involved in the topic of AIDS, family planning, and ‘condoms’. His credibility is further improved by all the involvements he talked about and showed in the visual aids of his speech. Furthermore, his method of delivery is also a key factor. His 13 minutes speech felt like five minutes to me due to all the humours that he used; it truly amazed me how he can turn a sensitive topic into an entertaining speech.

As for Greta Thunberg, I was also persuaded by her speech. In contrast to the humorous speech by Mechai, Greta went for a more serious approach. The persuasive of her speech mainly comes from her extensive researches. Even though Greta might only be a kid (not a climate specialist or whatsoever), her researches definitely increases the credibility of her speech. By giving concise and exact datas, I definitely got the feeling that Greta knows what she is talking about and is trustable. However, in my opinion, if she included some visual aids (mentioning her sources), the already high quality of her speech would certainly further increase.

Mechai’s speech is very persuasive since I already agree with his idea that family planning is very important for a society to be sustainably developed. However, it is because of his humor and illustration that he used, it helped me to understand the concept he wanted to present more quickly and clearly. He improved his credibility gradually very well from since beginning of his speech and throughout the speech by addressing several research, sources of information, and his past experiences. And the most important thing about this speech from my point of view is the speaker’s reputation because I have known Mechai as a famous person who first sold condoms in Thailand, since when I was young.

Greta Thunberg did a great job of persuading me. It is by fact that most of people are aware of the climate change and the global warming, however, the majority of people tend to forget about it. Greta did a very good job to remind and persuade everyone to start taking actions against climate change now. She spoke with great confidence, her tone and words were very clear, and the message is sent out clearly with a little bit of humor in it. Having said that though her speech is persuasive, I have not seen many changes in the global scale and not even the individual scale. I believe that this is because the speech itself is persuasive but not persuasive enough to change one’s bad habits, and that it is almost impossible to do so.

After listening to Mechai Veravaidya’s speech, I was persuaded by him. In Mechai Veravaidya’s speech on family planning, he included statistics to increase his credibility, and used real life examples of how sex education were taught among adults and children. Not only that, he also incorporated humor into his speech. HIV and AIDs may be a sensitive topic to certain people in the population, but he made the topic entertaining and easy to understand. His immediate movement and experiences to educate people on condoms and safe-sex and how his actions resulted in a positive outcome are one of the factors that persuade audiences on his speech.

Personally, I think Greta Thunberg’s speech has not really persuaded me. Although she has used spoken references to make her speech more credible, and her tone of voice suited the topic of this speech, her expressions could have been more dramatic to make her speech more lively and entertaining. I think one of the factors that made the speech not persuasive enough for me is that there isn’t a direct effect that could motivate people to take immediate action. People couldn’t see that the world is suffering, that help is needed. Just like she mentioned in the speech, even green activists themselves are still travelling around the world via plane and eating meat and dairy products. Experiences are what really push people to take action.

Yes, the speech was very persuasive for the first video clip. I was convinced that family planning is necessary to our lives. He talked about the real situation that happened and how could his program help back then. He talked about the Thailand community to make it closer to the audience. The evidence was strong and very easy to follow. He also provides information that seems reliable in the audience’s opinion, this makes his overall speech become more persuasive and easy to believe.

The second video clip was persuasive too. I was impacted by that speech a lot. She asks the audience a question that will grab their attention. She then talked about her point, in this case, climate change which is a problem that all of us know but doesn’t want to admit’s a big problem. She provides us the data about the rate of extinction which makes the speech more reliable and understandable. The first speech by Mechai Veravaidy is very persuasive. He has a well-organized speech plan as he orders his speech by starting with the problem; followed by cause and solutions which make it much easier for audience to follow. During his speech, he uses his good sense of humor as an effective way to talk about sensitive topics in an entertaining way. All of the research and visual aids he involved in his speech also help to improve his credibility. Also, the way he talks about his personal experiences and provides many examples allows the audience to easily understand and follow the key ideas.

For a second video, I found that the climate change speech by Greta Thunberg is also very persuasive. Greta Thunberg improves her credibility by including many spoken references during her speech as she shows many statistics and impacts related to climate changes which is a good way to make the speech more reliable and more relatable to the audience. Moreover, she also ends her speech with the facts about how our actions will affect our lives in the future which is such an impactful and effective ending that makes her speech far more memorable and easier to keep in mind so this also realized me that we should seriously take some actions.

For the first speech, in my point of view, he was very persuasive. His speech was easy to follow and understand even though it is a sensitive and subtle topic. I strongly agree with him that every family should have a plan. Birth rate should be controlled so that issues according to overpopulation such as disease (HIV) can be controlled. Contraception not only improves a woman's quality of life but it also improves the economy of the country as a whole. His persuasive delivery throughout the speech makes the speech interesting for the audience to listen to. In addition, he nicely added several jokes in the speech which helped attract audience attention. During the speech, he used many pictures of himself on the field working to spread out consciousness among people about using contraceptives as visual aids. These pictures made me believe that he is a person that really works in this field so he is reliable. Also, in this speech, there is research on the statistics of birth rate and population growth in Thailand. All in all, Mechai’s speech is very persuasive and easy to understand.

For the second speech, again it is very persuasive for me. Her pace was very easy to listen to and the words she chose were easy to understand. Although she seems not to like to speak out, every word she spoke was touching the audience. She also included statistics data and scientific facts into her speech but her way of adding them was incredibly interesting. She used rhetorical questions such as “Are we evil?” and she answered herself “ofcourse, not” which made her speech more interesting and attracted audiences’ attention. Her mention of scientific data helped raise her credibility. Moreover, she clearly shows her standpoint which is not just studying about the environment or global warming to help the Earth but to start taking action by now. To summarize, her point of view and the way she sees the world is strong and she was able to clearly deliver her opinion toward the audience.

The first speaker that I watched was Mechai Veravaidya. Immediately into his speech and gradually until the speech was done, I can't deny that he was very persuasive. He included many aspects of being persuasive such as providing statistics which can not only persuade people but also includes his credibility as a speaker. He uses real life examples from his past experiences, many sources, and not to mention includes humor in his speech as well. By using humor, we as the audience can emotionally connect to what he is saying and become engaged with his speech. Even though he talked about topics that might sound sensitive to alot of people such as AIDS, HIVS, it was to a certain amount of extent that can be comprehend-able . To increase his credibility even more, he then finds a solution to this topic as well by promoting people on safe sex and how to properly use condoms. This helps the audience realize a cause and effect type of solution.

Undeniably Greta Thunberg is very well known for including a lot of emotions presented into her speech. Normally, the population knows about global warming. We know that it is a danger to our society and we know that it increases every day, but yet we take little steps to prevent it. Greta is here to remind us that we need to do something. Even though she is emotionally connected with the topic, I feel like there wasn't a lot of credibility in her speech. Even though she provided stats about the rate of extinction, it was kinda out of point and hard to follow. I feel like it could use more of a cause and effect outline like the first speaker did. She has room for improvements since she is still young and still has a lot to learn. But a good thing she made during the speech was raise a question towards the audience. It helps them become more connected with her speech.

Different stats, research made the speech reliable and credible but his unique style of delivery made me to follow along the speech. Besides, the most fantastic fact is that he was able to share probably two most sensitive issues like family planning and AIDS comfortably and clearly.

Her speech was persuasive too. Maybe one of the most important issues of globalization is climate change. I was wondering about the vocal tone and confidence in her age. She used stats and resources like 100 million barrel oil, 6%-12% emission reduction and Paris agreement those made her speech more credible. For Mechai's speech about family planning, to me personally is very persuasive. I would say I am persuaded by his speech. His speech seems to be organized in a chronological order which helps the audience to see the whole image of his topic. He mentioned statistics about Thai family before and after the family planning to show the audience why family planning is necessary. He also presented all of this campaigns about applying family planning to solve poverty problems in Thai society. He has a sense of humor and used it in this speech to attain audience's attention. His past activities, experiences, all of his workshops done in the past and the positive consequences are the effective aspects that persuade his audience including me.

Similar to Greta's speech, I am totally persuaded. First of all, I would that the atmosphere felt tense in order to show the audience how serious the global warming problem is. The fact that she is a young teenager and started talking her future life where her has to deal with the global warming problem that could have been solved earlier built up a tragic feeling to the audience including me myself. She talked about all the negative consequences from not solving this problem by now to convince her audience. Mechai Veravaidya’s speech is very persuasive. He is able to use statistics and visual aids to support his points effectively and that has enhanced his credibility as a speaker. The pictures on his slides provide evidence of the examples he brings up throughout the speech, especially ones where is he present (which shows the audience that he is involved and knows exactly what he is talking about). In addition to this, the experiences from his position allow him to speak fluidly in regards to the importance of family planning and how it could reduce poverty. Something that makes his speech unique is that he is able to incorporate humor into such a serious matter and that is something that helps keep the audience engaged.

In contrast to Veravaidhya’s speech style, Greta Thunberg has a much more serious tone of voice and facial expressions. This, I believe, makes the audience feel that she is very passionate about what she is speaking about and comes across as genuine. The pace of her speech is also slower compared to the average speech (at least compared to most speeches I have listened to) and this adds to the seriousness of the subject of climate change. Her use of rhetorical questions is also very effective. These qualities and her strong conclusion are the key elements to convince the audience that the problem is urgent and action needs to be taken, not later but right now.

According to the first speech by Mechai Veravaidya, he is talking about the importance of family planning. He points out that using condom can protect AIDS and prevent the unwanted pregnancy due to the mother's readiness or their financial status. I am totally persuaded by him. Even if his topic are pretty sensitive, but he can deliver it in a very interesting way. Mechai puts lots of examples with the references and also relates them to his personal experiences. He also tries to add some joke along the ways which make the speech does not sound too serious. Moreover, other than the perfect visual aids that he used, Mechai also get some real objects to show such as the T-shirts with condom's pictures or the keychains with fun quotes.

Next, for the second speech by Greta Thunberg, she also persuades me to realise the problem of global warming. I think the strength of her speech is that she puts emotion to deliver her speech. She talks about her personal experiences and her future to help the audiences imagine the problem clearly. Even if Greta does not use any visual aids to support her speech, but because it is well known topic so everyone understand what she is trying to say. She also speak with a very stable tone which make it easier to understand and absorb her real emotion. Lastly, Greta brings up the fact that a lot of people know the problem, never take an action to solve it. And this point hits me and I think this is the main idea of her speech.

The first video by Mechai Veravaidya about family planning is persuasive for me. I feel like the main reason why people are persuaded by his speech is because of his credibility. He gave the audience real life examples that happened in Thailand many years ago. He talked about his plans to solve the problem and also provided us with visual aids, which would help the audience be able to catch up with what he is saying. He also talks about his experiences with being an activist in AIDS prevention and other projects in Thailand to help increase his credibility. For the second video, which is Greta Thunberg’s speech, is also a persuasive speech as well. I totally agree with her that climate change is real and it is affecting everyone. She uses research and her personal connection to the topic to persuade the audience. She uses research to support her speech and help us realize what is going on in the world right now. SHe also uses a serious tone throughout her speech. Not only that, she uses repetitive phrases like “we need to change”. This makes the audience pay attention to her and what she is talking about. Her speech persuaded me to change and help save the environment in order for my kids and grandkids to have a nice environment to live in.

In the first speech by Mechai Veravaidya, he talk about family planning and illustrates its impact on Thai people’s family now and before. His overall voice is very calm and soothing, also the performances are trustworthy that make the topic he talks look reliable. He uses a lot of visual aids in order to create a picture on our head and make the topic to be easy to understand. The fact that he show examples related to Thai people help us to consider it as a crucial point in our living. Lastly, he add a sense of humour to his speech that connected him to the audience and make them feel more intimate as when he talk about sensitive topics. I would say that I can’t be more persuaded by the speech that it has impact the way I think about this particular topic.

In the second video by Greta Thunberg, my first impression on her is that she has a very low, serious voice. She did not smile throughout her speech which does not make a good impression when I first listen to her. However, the topic she talk is very important to all of us as it is about global warming that is simply an effects from human actions. Though this topic has always been concerned by people, she explained it into more detail and related it into her personal experiences that make me understand more about the thing that she is saying. Her strongest point is that she always show emotions in an effective way that does not make her speech look less reliable. Overall, this topic persuaded me as I concerned how much global warming affects the world and we as a people living on it.

For Mechai's speech, I was persuaded by him. Because of his creditability and the example he use could persuade listener well including me. The example that he provides is real life which relates to the listeners. His plan and solution are clear to understand because his visual makes the audience being able to catch up to what he is speaking. Overall, I feel like I was persuaded by him that life qualities are not dependent on the government only.

For Greta's video, I also agree with her about climate change which affects us all. The research she uses supports her speech while also persuading us. The research helps us to understand what is happening which makes us understand more about the topic. Also, she relates the topic to herself making the topic related to us as well. Lastly, she uses repeat the word we need to change a lot which makes us focus on what she talks about.
