Reflective Journal #2: Lucas Readings from Week 1 & 2.

We are moving quickly as we prepare for our first speaking challenge, the Personal Speech.

But I think that we'll find that even though our textbook readings are more targeted at face-to-face situations, the principles of public speaking still apply for our purposes. We still need Confidence, as speaking in this format still inspires nervousness and fear. We still need a clear Purpose with strategic Main Points. Even though we are behind a computer screen, our Voice and our Body is still powerful in the way we convey our ideas and our personality.

Thank you to the students who posted their Week 1 and Week 2 Lucas tutorials. And so for this journal post, I would like everyone to select 2 of the tutorial videos that your classmates made for you. View the videos and reflect on your first Personal Speech.

In your post, I would like you to identify one idea from each of the tutorial videos you watch, and share what was a new learning for you. And then reflect on how you may apply it in your Personal Speech.

Please make your post by next class

Please remember to include your ID# and your Section # in your post. Aj. M

Firstly, from the developing confidence tutorial video, I just realized that fortunately the audience do not know what we plan to say and they are too focused on the content of the speech that they are unlikely to notice that we make mistakes. Therefore, I should not worry too much and continue with my speech. In addition, I also should keep in mind that thorough preparation takes time, so I should not rush through it. Lastly, since it is impossible to make a perfect speech, I should not feel stressful or pressured to make it right.

According to the conclusion tutorial video, there are several ways to end a speech, such as crescendo, dissolving, repeating a central idea and using a quote. However, although tones and wordings of each one may be different, the conclusion aims on making sure that the audience really gets the main message the speaker wanted to convey. For me, I may use crescendo ending together with reinforcing my main point in order to ensure that my audience would be persuaded by my speech.

The main idea from the first tutorial video about developing confidence is that stage fright and nervousness is normal. I learned that we should take advantage of our nervousness to perform well in our speech. The way I may apply this in my personal speech in order to decrease anxiety and stage fright is to pick the topic I truly care about and do a lot of preparation and practice. Thinking positively that no one is perfect and that making mistakes is normal can also help to increase confidence and concentration while giving a speech. I should always act confident, even though I actually feel nervous inside because this can help me to actually feel confident, thus boosting positive energy within me.

The second video is about the conclusion, and the main idea of this video is that a conclusion is the final statement of the speaker and a take-home message given to the audience. I learned that the two functions of the conclusion are to signal the end of the speech as well as to reinforce the central idea by giving clear objectives and clarifying any misunderstandings for the audience. The conclusion is one of the important parts of the speech since people will forget many details of the speech, but they will remember the ending part. Therefore, in my personal speech, I should work on finishing my speech strongly to give the last and final best impression, so people can remember me.

Firstly, I think all the videos were helpful and I learned from all of them. But, my favorite video was developing confidence. one of my biggest problem when I am giving any speech is how to control myself and not being nervous. So in this video Mr. Gun introduced some techniques to control ourselves. Some of them I already known before but few are new and I hope these tips is going to help me in developing my confidence in my next speech.
The second video was about choosing a topic. the video explained the types of topics such as topic you know a lot about and topic you want to learn more about. and how to choose your speech topic. Also, I learned few new things about brainstorming like internet search, clustering and personal inventory.

From the first video clip, developing confidence, taught us about how to improve our confidence when speaking in public. It is normal for everyone to be nervous before or while speaking in public. Even famous speakers have this problem too. One way to overcome the fear is to keep in mind that the audience never knows what we are planning to say. Even when something did not go as planned, we can still convince the audience that it was part of the plan by staying calm. The audience cannot feel our heartbeat, but if we express the feeling of nervousness through facial expressions, the audience will know.
The second video clip was about choosing a topic. There are types of topics we can choose to speak about, it can be sorted into two main groups, the topic you already know about, and the topic you want to know more. We need to know what is the main purpose of our speeches in order to choose the correct topic. After choosing the topic, you can draft the speeches by brainstorming the ideas and do more research on the internet. Last, the presentation can be used as a media to discuss about the topic.

According to the first video clip I watched, the general and specific purposes of speech. It's basically to inform some information to audiences and enhance their knowledges. The next purpose is to persuade, change audience's attitudes toward something. To have the specific purpose, you need to generate a general one first and bring it to a question of what you really want listeners to get from your speech. It even mentioned about how to formulate and limit the statement you have into one idea which I found it very effective and useful.

I choose the method of delivery for the second one since it's related to the topic that I was assigned. There're many possible ways to make your speech become more interesting and capturing in different types of speech. Here's an example of tips for each, the first one is for the reading your manuscript one, you should make as much eye contact as possible. Next is to memorize well in the case you have to recite the speech from your own memories. The third one is the impromptu speech, you need to be calm and confident, and the last one is speak extemporaneously, using natural voice, gestures, and don't stick to your script that much.

First, from the speaker’s voice video tutorial, the main idea of the video is about using voices. There are many aspects of voice that speakers should be concerned of such as the volume, pitch, rate pauses, pronunciation, and etc. Dialect is also one of many aspects that the speakers should be careful with, however, there is no dialect that better than another but it is ideal to use the most suitable dialect for a specific community so the audience can easily understand the speech. The new learning for me is that public speakers do not need to speak in a specific rate, they can alter the rate while speaking. For instance, Martin Luther K. who spoke “I have a dream” started with 92 words/minute and ended with 145 words/minute. I may apply this idea with my personal speech by using slow rate with important phrases where I want to make the words clear and memorable for audiences.
From developing confidence tutorial video, the main idea of the video is about how to develop confidence for public speaking as well as remind me that most of the people even the social active ones are all struggling with stage fright so it is normal to feel it. The new learning for me is that visualization helps speakers control their stage fright and raise speaker’s confidence. Visualization is mental imaging which speakers picture themselves giving a successful speech. I may apply this idea with my personal speech by picturing myself successfully overcome my nervousness during speaking and finished my speech in a given time.

The first video I selected is “Choosing the Purpose". According to the video, there are two main parts to a purpose statement: the general and specific purpose. I have learnt that the general purpose is the broad goal of the speech (to inform or to persuade) and that the specific purpose should only focus on one aspect of the topic (the main idea). Furthermore, from this tutorial, I also received many tips on how to write a specific purpose statement. This would greatly help me in my Personal Speech as I strongly believe that a good purpose statement would greatly benefit my speech as it would serves as a guideline of the objective that I hope to accomplish in my speech which would allow my audiences to truly know the actual purpose of my speech.
The next video I choose is “Central Idea”. According to the video, central idea is what the article is mainly about (also known as the thesis statement, subject sentence, or major thought). It is basically what you want the audience to think and remember about your speech. In addition, I also learnt that the central idea is different from the topic of the text and also different from the specific purpose. Central idea is more narrow and reveals more content than the specific purpose. By receiving tips on how to write a good central idea, I believe that my speech would become much more organised & concise to the audience as a central idea summaries your point and give audiences clue to the body in the speech.

In the first video about "The Tradition of Public Speaking", at the start of the video, it is started with the general definition of the topic followed by some histories of the topic. These two techniques can help the audience to understand more about the background of the topic. After that, it is about the 4 skills that are similar to both public speaking and conversation. At this point, there is an example for each skill, so the audience will understand more about what the skill exactly is. Then, in the end, it is about the difference between public speaking and conversation. She tries to add more information during the speaking, so this can make the example (the bullet points) more understandable. All of these techniques are really useful for the audience. I think that these techniques about giving the information more detailed will be really useful for me in the personal speech because there are a lot of times that the information should be added. I can use this technique to improve my speech by adding more information to the topic that I want to talk about.

The next video that I listen to is "Choosing a topic". There are two main information about this topic which are types of topics and brainstorming for topics. Then, he uses the technique of organizing to divide his speech logically. This technique is really useful for the talk because if the speech organizes, it will make everything easier for the speaker. I can use this technique in my speech my saying from the start of what I will talk about. Then, everything should be more logical for the rest of the speech. To be more exact how he divides, the first big topic (Types of topics) is divided into "Topic you know a lot about" and "Topic you want to know more about". Meanwhile, the second big topic (Brainstorming for topics) is divided into personal inventory, clustering, and internet search. Moreover, he also tells us more detail by saying us more information at every point. This is really useful because it can make every topic clearer.

The first video that I watched was "Choosing a topic for your speech". In this video, it is recommended that you choose a topic that you know a lot about or that you want to know more about. Knowing the topic will help in your confidence and your familiarity with your topic. On the other hand, choosing the topic you want to know more about will give you the chance to know it even better alongside your audience. I can use this technique to help me choose the topic that I am most comfortable with and start from there.

The second video that I watched was "Introduction". The four objectives that this video presented was really helpful, especially "Get the attention and interest of your audience". It is important that the introduction hooked the interest of the audience. The initial attention is easy, but what's harder is the keep the attention of your audience. There are many ways to do this such as, state the importance of you topic, arouse the curiosity of the audience, and question the audience. This gives me an array of methods to use to introduce my topic to my audience.

One main idea from the tradition of public speaking is that the purpose of public speaking is to inform, persuade, and entertain the audience. One thing that was new learning for me is that in public speaking you should organize your thoughts logically. I can apply this in my personal speech by organizing what I am going to say in my notes. I will probably write it out in my notes first of what I am going to say, so my thought would be organized.

One main idea from choosing a topic for your speech is that you should brainstorm for the topic. One thing that is new learning to me is to choose a topic that you know a lot about. I can use this in my personal speech by choosing a topic that I am very familiar with that I can relate back to my life. If I know a lot about music, I can choose to do about that topic and relate back to my life.

For the first video,"Developing Confidence", the content in the video is pretty useful and applicable, especially in this class. The speaker mentioned the stage fright that is an issue for all public speaker, including students in this class as well. For her first tip, she says that being nervous is normal. Furthermore, the nervousness will occur among all people when they are going to preform an important action. For instance, athletes sometimes feel nervous before they begin their matches in front of their fans. The speaker then starts giving her tips for dealing with nervousness. Out of the six tips that the speaker gave one idea from I have learned is that do not expect perfection. I am certain that everyone wants their works to be perfect, but we have to admit that it is impossible. What we should really expect is best you are capable to do.

The next video is "The Tradition of Public Speaking". The speaker begins that his video with the definition and the purposes of public speaking. Then the speaker explains the tradition of public speaking. One idea I would like to identify at this section of video. The idea that public speaking has been taught around the world for thousands of year. This fact that there are principles of public speaking also surprises me. Furthermore, I have learned that understanding these principles will help you to develop your own effective speeches as well as being a good listener while others are performing their speeches.

Method of delivery is the first video that I have watched. It is about how delivering a speech can be put into 4 main categories: reading from a script, reciting it from memory, doing an impromptu, and doing it in an extemporaneously way. From this video, it helps me to notice on the way a speaker can use in a presentation. Whether there should be a script and read it properly or citing from the memory to play with the emotion instead. It also covers on variety of the mistake and how we should prevent it. By covering on the pros and cons in each types of delivery are a very useful reminder to me to avoid those same mistakes, and to choose the suitable method to fit with my purpose of the speech. For instance, reciting from a memory is useful and perfect for an event like a toast or a congratulatory remark, because it is not a long speech and requires a personal and emotional sentiment toward this particular speech. On the other hand, a technical report should be read exactly from the manuscript due to the accuracy importance.
Next is the general and specific purpose. The second video is about the purpose of each speech, where it should contain both general and specific purpose. A general objective should be either to inform or to persuade listeners, while a specific objective should focus on a deeper level. There are 5 tips in forming a specific purpose statement: write it in a full phrase, express in full statement not a question, avoid figurative language, use one idea is enough, and make sure it is not too vague or general. Personally, I find tips to narrow and form a specific purpose come in handy when I have to pin it down. Not to mention, the checklist questions at the end of the video really help my understanding in what the specific purpose should be about.

A proper conclusion does two main things, which is letting the audience know that you are ending the speech, and to reinforce the audience’s understanding of the central idea of the speech. To let the audience know you are ending the speech, you need to use transitions, such as in conclusion, my purpose has been, etc. Changing the voice and the momentum of the speech such as in Martin Luther King’s speech can also signal the end of the speech. Next, conclusions can also be made to appeal to the audience emotions which makes the speech more dramatic. To reinforce the central idea of the speech, you can summarize the speech in the conclusion, end with a quotation, or make a dramatic statement.

Connectives are important because it helps with the flow of your speech. There are 4 types of connectives which are the transitions, internal previews, internal summaries, and signposts. Transitions is a word or phrase that allows speakers to move on to the next topic smoothly. Internal previews are a statement in the body that lets the audience have a preview of what topic the speaker is going to talk about. Internal summaries is the reverse of internal previews, which reminds the listeners of what they have just heard, and lastly, signposts are brief statements that indicate exactly what the main ideas are. All of the connectives help the audience understand and focus on key ideas.

I will apply both to my speech since I believe that both will make a difference between a good and a bad speech. Connectives will help the audience focus on key ideas and help the audience understand the speech better. The conclusion will help the audience have a satisfied ending of the speech which will wrap up everything the speech covers.

The first video I have chosen to view was “Introduction video” which was presented by Akarapol( Section 2). The new information I have learned from this video was that we can also startle the audience in order to get their attention usually personally introduce my speech by telling a story. One key idea that I have gotten from the video is that first impress matters a lot to the audience and it can determine how your speech goes. I can apply the ideas I have learned into my own personal speech by carefully think about my introduction using interest method that he have presented and think about what I am going to where to create a great first impression towards the audiences.

The second video was a “ Developing Confidence” video by Petch (Section 1). One new thing that I have learned from the presentation was that there is a rule for how many hours needed to prepare for a certain number of minutes of public speaking(1 hour of preparation for one minute of speech. The key idea that I have got after listening to the video was that no speeches are perfect but we can get better at public speaking or delivering a speech by practice. I can definitely try to think more positively and practice doing my speech to be more confident with what I am going to say

The first video I watched, “Connectives”, introduced how adding connectives into speeches result in a smoother flow. One new thing I have learned is that not only are there transitions to connect one thought to another, there are also connectives that give a preview for the upcoming main point and those that reinforce information that was discussed previously. When introducing and concluding new ideas in the speech, I could insert some connectives, so audiences could be reminded thoroughly of what they just heard.

The second video, “Developing Confidence”, refers that it is not unusual to feel nervous before making a public speech and there are certain methods for you to overcome that stage fright: be well-prepared, have positive thoughts, and take advantage of the power of visualization. Something I learned from this video is people (as in the audience) tend to not remember the small mistakes you made during public speaking, but are more focused on the message you are trying to deliver. This piece of new information may help me be better prepared before and during the speech, as I realize that listeners do not know what the speaker was initially planning to say. So even if you do make a mistake, there are high possibilities that they missed it. Confidence is what I need to deliver a well-spoken speech.

The first video I watched was “Choosing a topic”. What I learned from this video is that there are 2 types of topics including topics you already know about and topics you want to know more about. The first one requires knowledge and experience while the second one depends on your interest. Moreover, if you get stuck with choosing topics, you should start brainstorming. There are 3 steps to follow which are personal inventory, clustering, and internet search. First, you should jot down what comes to your mind. It can be anything such as topics from your personal experience, and you should make lists until you have got 4-5 ideas in each topic. However, if you still cannot come up with any ideas, the internet is the best solution for you.

The second video was “Speaker’s body”. Things that help the listener understand the message are not words, but how the speaker organizes body motion called the study of kinesis. This is an important topic since people trust their ears than their eyes. There are 4 main points you should do to be an effective speaker. The first one is personal appearance. This will create a good first impression because the audience always sees you. Next is the movement of your body. You should not rush into the speech and give the audience eye contact. Effective speakers don’t need a lot of gestures. Their gestures should not distract messages and should be natural by using the technique of staying in the box. By doing so, your gestures will not be out of control. Lastly, Eye contact or direct visual is the most significant factor since the attitude can be revealed from your eyes.

The first video is developing confidence. This video taught us how to be more confident while doing public speaking. It is normal for people to be nervous, even famous people are nervous too. I learned that to be more confident, I need to pick the topic that I really am interested in, practice a lot, and don’t try to be perfect. The audiences do not know what we plan to say, so they would not know that we make mistakes. I will try to think more positively so that I would be more confident.

From the second video, I learned that connectives are important because it makes the speech sounds smoother. There are 4 types of connectives which are transition, internal previews, internal summaries, and signposts. Transition is the word or phrase that helps the speaker move from one topic to another. Internal preview is the statement in the body of the speech that gives clues to the audience of what the speaker is going to say next. The internal summary helps remind the audience of what they have just heard. Lastly, signpost is a brief statement that indicates where the speaker is in the speech. I could use these techniques to make my speech sounds better.

I have watched the first video “Central idea”. According to the video, I have learned that the central idea is also called the thesis statement, the subject sentence, or the major thought. Actually, the central idea is what you want the audience to think about your speech and what you want them to remember so it is also known as a residual message. However, I also learn that the central idea is different from a specific purpose in that it is more precise and well worded which hints to the audience about what will be in the speech. By watching this video, I got many tips and suggestions to improve my speech like how to make a good and specific central idea that can cover all the messages that I want to deliver to the audience. Hence, I think this tutorial can help to improve my speech a lot.

For the second video, I have watched “Developing confidence”. I have learned that stage fright is the anxiety over the prospect of giving a speech in front of an audience and it is also one of the greatest fears of many people. However, it is normal for people to feel anxious before doing something important in front of the public. Therefore, to come over the fear, those who succeed are the ones who use the feeling of nervousness to their advantage. The video tutorial provides me many effective ways of dealing with nervousness. For example, I would choose the topics that I am truly interested in and try to think positively; for example, instead of blaming yourself for not being a great public speaker, just believing that no one’s perfect, so I could gain more confidence and feel better.

According to the video about developing confidence, it revolves around how having nervous energy while on stage and getting stage frights now and then is completely normal. It happens to everyone and it's not a bad thing you should be concerned about. I picked this video because I thought it would be very useful to use in this class since it is a presenting and speaking class. Nervousness occurs among everyone when they are going to do something important that they can't mess up. The speaker then heads on to give a solution to the problem and how to deal with stage frights. One of the things i learnt from the video is that the audience doesn't know what we are about to say (they're less concerned about what you're gonna say), so you can use this as an advantage. We have to pick a topic that we are interested in talking about so we won't stutter and we will have passion about it. You shouldn't feel the stress or pressure to make everything perfect because no one is.

The next video i watched is called tradition of public speaking. A main idea from this is that you have to organize your thoughts. Public speaking has been around for so long and still follows the structure that you have to inform and persuade your audience to follow and think about what you're saying. This makes you a great public speaker. How i will apply this to my own public speaking is write and jot down my ideas and practice many times to see if it makes sense before i go and present the information.

The first video is about developing confidence. Everyone is nervous, even professional talk show hosts are nervous, so you need to learn in order to deal with it. Positive nervous, helps us stay focused and energetic. You also need to find more speaking experience. And use positive thought to overcome nervousness and sometimes the audience may not know that you made a mistake. I think that positive nervousness would help me not get distracted by the surrounding environment. Moreover, I think I will do my best to prepare the resource. I believe that if I have great powerpoint it would reduce my stress.

The second one is about connectives. This topic explains how to make the speech present smoothly. There are many transitional phrases that could be used in speech. Signposts are also helpful. It helps the audience understand key ideas. For me, I think that this idea could help me highlight the key idea of my speech. I might use transition phrases to connect everything together.

The first video that I think it is very useful for a speech is "choosing a topic". It seems to be very general but a lot of people might have a problem with it including me. As stated in the video, there are 2 types of topics you can choose. First is to choose the topics you know a lot about. This is when you are familiar and have a lot of experience on a topic, and want to share them with other people. Second type is to choose the topics that you want to know more about. It is when you want to invest something new. This will be a learning experience for both you and your audiences. Next is to brainstorm for topics which have 3 ways; topic that come to your minds first, topic that you list out from your surrounding things, and topic that you randomly search from the internet. I think this is very helpful because to choose a topic is the most difficult thing for me to get started on my speech.

Another video that is very important for most of the public speaker is "developing confidence". This video shows that most of people have the stage fight even if the most well-known speaker still have to deal with this condition. It is normal but we also can take the advantages out of it. The more nervous you have the more well you will do on the stage. There are also ways to deal with nervousness by changing it into positive force. Such as acquiring speaking experience, picking topic you truly care and having well prepare, thinking positively about yourself, using visualisation to help practise, and do not expect the perfection. Confident is the key for every speeches, therefore knowing the fact of this nervousness help me to improve my confident and encourage me to get better and better.

The main points are the central features of the speech. When stating the main points you should list the ideas and group the topics that are related together. There are many ways to arrange the speech. First, you can arrange speech by the events following a time pattern. Second, follow the process and steps. Next, following a directional pattern (spatial order) which means that the main points proceed from top to bottom, left to right, for example. For the casual order, speaker can arrange the speech from the cause and effect of an event and the order is convertible. The problem-solution order is divided into 2 parts which the more serious one comes first. Lastly, the topical order creates the sub topics which will be main points of the speech.

The general purposes of the speech are the goal of that speech. Usually, it is either to in form or to persuade. When it is an informative speech, the speech will explain, report, and demonstrate clear, accurate and interesting information to enhance the knowledge and understanding of audiences. For persuasive speech, the aim is to change the attitude of listeners. Determining specific will come after choosing a topic which will precisely state the aim. The statement should be written in a single full infinite phrase and avoid questions and figurative language.

The first video I watched is Choosing The Topic. What I found very helpful is that the idea about choose the topic you want to know more about. This is because choosing the topic based on personal interest means that the speakers are interested in and speakers comfortable talking about. Moreover, sometimes, the topic of interest might be the one that speakers believe speakers know well, however, it might not always be the case. Searching the details on a particular topic can make the speakers themselves discover new knowledge and ideas.
The second video I watched is Method of Delivery. Knowing types of speaking helps me to understand and distinguish which type of method of delivery best suits which type of speech. For example, I learned the tips from the video that speaking extemporaneously needs to focus on conversational quality which is using natural voice and gestures, notes can be used, and strong eye contact. Changing the words from the stript is allowed to make the speech become more natural.
I can adapt these tips to my personal speech. I can start the speech with interesting facts that I never known which I find during the research. This helps the topic in my personal speech to be more interesting and cover tiny details which easily gets the audience’s attention. Moreover, I need to keep in mind during my practices to use the conversational quality to make the speech attractive so in the real speech I can confidentialy use them.

One of the essential components of a speech is the subject it is based on. For the past week, I have been contemplating between a few topics for my speech, which is why I chose to watch “Choosing a Topic”. I think that the most helpful tip I received from this video is the brainstorming technique. This technique is divided into three main procedures: personal inventory, clustering, and internet research. My favorite one is probably the ‘clustering’ method because I have never used a list of words to trigger new ideas. With the aid of this technique, I think that the creative aspect of my speech will definitely improve. It will be very simple yet beneficial to apply this to my case for when I am required to make my final decision.

Since I have been told many times that I sound boring (particularly when I am speaking off a script), I chose to watch “A Speaker’s Voice”. After watching this, I have identified my main struggle: pitch. I tend to speak in monotone because I am usually more focused on getting the words out correctly. In order to fix this problem and improve my speechmaking abilities, I will have to record myself and listen back to it. By doing this, it will help me look out for sentences that end on the same inflection. Practice on speech patterns will certainly come in handy as well.

The main idea of developing confidence is that feeling nervous is unavoidable but we should take the advantage of that nervousness by turning it into a positive trait of staying focus. From the video, I learn that preparation is one of the important keys in public speaking because more practice makes us feel more comfortable. Also, I realized that listeners do not know what I plan to say, therefore, whenever I make mistakes, I just have to carry on with the speech. I should not expect perfection because it will only stresses me out. I can apply this to my personal speech by putting much effort in preparing and practicing for my speech. I would take time in working on my speech to get comfortable in delivering the message.

The central idea of choosing a topic for public speech is to choose the topic we are passionate about. It is essential to choose the topic that we are interested on as it enhances the ability of delivering the speech. One thing I learned from the video is to brainstorm for the topic of my speech by using the clustering procedure. This procedure allows us to think of many title (could be about 40-50 words) we could choose to speak about in our speech. I can apply this method in choosing a topic to deliver for my personal speech. I would list down couple of titles from the columns as I brainstorm for the topic I would like to pick for my speech.

The topic of the first video that I watched was 'developing confidence'. This topic is quite interesting as almost everyone may have an issue with it. Mr. Shumie describes the topics quite nicely. I would like to appreciate the part where he suggest us to take the advantage of nervousness as well as the idea to convert the weakness to the strength. I have learned the biology of nervousness and the way to overcome the biological stress. Eventually, I have learned several ways to overcome stage fright and convert the fright to a positive nervousness.

In the second video where Ms. Yen talked about the importance of 'connectives' in public speaking. She explained the topic in a quite clear manner. I was amused at the example of connective where she connected the knowledge of anatomy to give an example. I have realized the importance of connectives in public speaking. At the same time, I have got some ideas about different types of connectives from her video.

The first video I watched is "introduction". It is very important that your speech gathers your audience's attention and there are many ways to do this. At first, the audience will always interest in you but what is hard is to keep the audience focus on your speech. To solve this you have to interact with your audience by asking questions or state the main idea of the speech, etc. This is very helpful for me to gather the audience's attention at the beginning of the speech and keep the attention as it is with the topic in the speech.

The second video I watched is "Central Idea". The central idea is what your speech is mainly about. This will make your audience remember and think of your speech. It is different from the topic and the purpose of the topic because it is more specific and tells more about the topic. This will make me choose a topic wisely and try to focus on the topic to make my speech rememberable.
